A study of justice and the place of the judge.
Pierre Rosanvallon analyzed the evolution of the place of the judge. You can listen to this conference online.
Pierre Rosanvallon explains the growing importance of the judge’s power in society by three main causes:
1. First of all, in a democracy, a transformation takes place in the notion of generality. It passes from appropriation by all to impartiality and thus to misappropriation.
2. Moreover, society expects better services from the judiciary (such as transparency, the obligation to judge)
3. Finally, the institutions of society have been studied within the framework of generality. However, these societies of the generality have turned to societies of the particularity, of the singularity.
