LGBTI groups and many other progressives, NGOs and civil society, have achieved their goals by mobilizing outside of the national constituencies, maybe on the level of international institutions at the UN or at the European Union, or even also by using courts, and then achieve their goals on the level of policies. And what we now see is that conservative groups do precisely the same. They mobilize outside of their national constituencies, they go to the courts, they go to the UN, they go on the level of the EU. And so the argument of the double helix is that progressive and conservative groups move strategically in very similar ways, and paradoxically, even in terms of topics, they move in very similar ways. So they focus on issues and the way they frame issues, they are like mirrors vis-a-vis each other.
